So apparently the US Navy is going to implement a sea-based laser weapon aboard the USS Ponce in 2014. Although not yet capable of taking down larger vessels, it can disable smaller ships as well as surveillance drones, and only costs $1 to shoot.
I find it truly amazing that this is occurring in my lifetime. It goes to show you that we are only limited by our imaginations!
